– With a combination of vision and determination, our President and CEO, Paul Nassar began his textile venture through the importing of cushion shells from Germany. Once in Canada, he would have them filled and thus began his first business transaction with his first large-scale customer – COSTCO Canada. He began offering licensed products which resulted in an increase in product demand, thus launching him into large-scale production. As a result, Universal Linens was established.
– Universal Linens eventually expanded its product line to include comforters using one machine purchased from Marimac. This small yet significant step guided Paul in his drive to expand and grow the business exponentially.
– The business’ steady growth eventually led to the need for a larger space. Coincidentally, Standard Felt, a comforter manufacturer that had been in business for over 46 years was filing for bankruptcy. The need for larger facilities to keep up with demand led Paul to purchase Stand Felt and merge it with Universal Linens.
– The perfect opportunity to expand the business arose yet again with the prospect of purchasing Maison Condelle, a leading manufacturer of window coverings for over 20 years. One of Maison Condelle’s main customers at the time and presently, is Sears Canada.
– Another core divison was added to the Marimac Group Inc. with the purchase of Marimac Inc., a 50 year-old bedding manufacturer. The acquisition of this company allowed for Paul to expand his client base to include the U.S. market.
– The purchase of Montreal Fast Print (MFP), a local printing, dyeing and finishing mill finalized the steps needed to turn the Marimac Group into a vertical company.
– Acquisition of our Iroquois plant, being our largest plant with in-stock beddings, mass production of high-tech quilting of comforters (comforter sets, bed-in-a-bag), using computerized quilting machines – with an approximate capacity of 15,000 comforters per day.
– The Marimac Group Inc., continues to work towards growth and strives for improvements in our business’ creative development, flexibility and innovation to meet market demands through the upgrading and updating of all our facilities and resources involved in each of our divisions.
